Maleficent Genres

Maleficent Main Genres:

 The main Genres of the film are Dark Fantasy/Action (Fantasy with elements of horror). The sub genres are Romance and Adventure. Villain in the film is who is supposedly the protagonist was good in her childhood and then becomes evil afterwards when she placed a curse on Arora but eventually became good again and even became the hero as Maleficent was the one who breaks the curse.

Dark Fantasy:

Dark fantasy is a subgenre of fantasy literary, artistic, and cinematic works that incorporate darker and frightening themes of fantasy. It also often combines fantasy with elements of horror or has a gloomy, dark (or grimdark) atmosphere, or a sense of horror and dread.

e.g. 30.56. When Maleficent is at Arora’s birth celebration and uses magic (fantasy) and is cursing her, and all the lights are darkened and only green spell sparks and Maleficent green eyes are shown in the dark (Dark a.k.a Horror).

Action:

Action film is a film genre in which the protagonist or protagonists are thrust into a series of challenges that typically include violence, extended fighting, physical feats, and frantic chases. Action films tend to feature a resourceful hero struggling against incredible odds, which include life-threatening situations, a villain, or a pursuit which generally concludes in victory for the hero (though a small number of films in this genre have ended in victory for the villain instead).

e.g. 1.18.30. Maleficent is caught in the iron net and is struggling to set free and with the King’s Army is attacking her fellow companion helps and her and she makes her way to be free and then is stopped by the king and his army as they surround her in a circle with iron shields, iron being Maleficent no.1 weakness. She takes thrust and makes her way out to the window taking the king with her as her wings attach she is saved.

Romance:

Romance films or romance movies are romantic love stories recorded in visual media for broadcast in theaters and on TV that focus on passion, emotion, and the affectionate romantic involvement of the main characters and the journey that their genuinely strong, true and pure romantic love takes them through dating, courtship or marriage. Romance films make the romantic love story or the search for strong and pure love and romance the main plot focus.

e.g. 1.13.34. When Prince Philippe to kiss Arora to wake her from her sleep as he has a thing for the princess but the kiss doesn’t work even though Prince Philippe dearly wanted the princess to wake but it wasn’t true enough.

Adventure:

Adventure films are a genre of film that typically use their action scenes to display and explore exotic locations in an energetic way.

e.g. 47.43. this is when Arora is woken to a place she has never seen and in the night the glowing fairies surround her as she explores the Mores, this is adventure.
