We had
multiple issues with the equipment. For example we booked a camera for the
weekend, we signed it out on the Friday and needed it for that afternoon. When
we went home the battery was all dead and the spare one was also low battery.
Which means we were not able to film much that night. The another time over the
weekend we were using the SD Card and it started stating how it was full even
though it was all empty and we had taken 2 picture. Luckily Ali’s Mum had a
spare SD card. The day our assignments were due, we exported them like Mr
Andrews showed us. But when we opened the quick view the music was all not
clear. We tried and spent several minutes wasting trying to fix it after school
but couldn’t fid a way. I also got told off by my mum as I was late to the pick
up area. When we were deciding which song to do we could not decide which one
because all three of us have different taste in music. We settled with Audio as
we pulled it out of the hat. We all knew we were going to do it based in the
lyrics and everything will be in matching order with the lyrics. We had made
sure we had used every source available on blackboard to produce the best music
video to our ability. It helped us shape
our timing and how and which order we wanted the scenes. We all made productive
time usage in class as we all had something to do. One lesson we filmed in the
music rooms. The other lessons we downloaded which ever videos we needed for
our music video and asked permission on youtube to use the videos. And Ali usually
was planning the weekend ahead and which shots we needed to make sure we didn’t
mess around in the productive weekends. Jun was editing each lesson or
drafting. We could have filmed more effectively if we had not bought the cheap
bath bombs from Kmart which said they were fizzy bath bombs but did not work,
meaning we should have researched more before spending money. We always had
members present in all our shootings, but we did find that group members who
had the camera and school laptop did not come to the designated place on time.
Some team members were insufficient with their time management. Ali’s absence
during all Thursdays did impact as we could have used that time to decide and
plan ahead, otherwise there were confusions. We managed by communicating
through snapchat and emails for choreography. Our group sticked to the planning
and shot list we made sure we had every scene but the ones that did not work
with timing we had to take or add extra shots. We made sure it was detailed
enough to tell us where we were doing it and when and what. I am satisfied with
my one minute editing and Jun and Ali’s as well they did great editing I especially
loved Juns reverse in the bath bombs. I would probably change the mouth part
where Ali is as it is too long and is not as appealing as we thought it could
be, it didn’t stick around to the message. If I was to do this again I would
make sure there is more time for editing. Our work represents the whole 6 weeks
put in as it has so many shots that we had to change redo and we have evidence
to back that up. We have more than 500 video clips for a three minute music
video. This shows that we used our time productively and made sure we had back
up shots incase we didn’t like the shots which made the project go a little
longer than expected.

Night stars video
I thought we should use a stars video from the youtube as, filming the stars at night was quite difficult as it was blurry and so hence used this one. I think it would look pretty cool and we couldn't get a shot like this even if we wanted to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFODR38mn6U
Superman Scenes
Today I was downloading and editing, for one of the lyrics "S on my chest" for superman. I thought maybe a superman video from the old movies would look cool so I used this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLvVTwPC3AE and downloaded it.

Learning how to make a music video
I have been doing research on how to do music videos and this website has helped me a lot.

Choreography for the Music video
I chose this choreography video as it can be used in our music video to make it look appealing. We thought that having a little more movement and structured routine would add impact and make our music video a little more interesting. As well as just using different shots for words this would have to be different and aesthetic. It is hip hop so I think that it can go well with the music.

Synopsis and Justification
Synopsis
We chose to do Audio by LSD, as our featured song. The video is about letting go and having fun. There is no specific message that implies in any way, the music video just shows the positive aspects of life and having it all. This music video should be able to make people happy and laugh. We have added aspects of comedy into it, but there is no storyline. The music video is mainly about how the song doesn't have audio at the start, but in the end, when they find their beat the song makes sense again. We also have a small aspect of the rest of the world and the problems other people are facing, so we show a bit of protest. But then back to having people (us) having fun and how our diverse culture doesn’t impact our friendship. In the end, we are trying to convey the small message of that we can be one even if we are from diverse cultures and that we stand out from the rest of the world. How we can remember small friendships and relationships even in times of crisis. That we need to stand together and put our differences aside.
Justification
The type of clips we plan to add will be our own clips that we recorded and specific clips from movies and YouTube. The videos taken from YouTube would be a protest or troubled videos of the world, to prove our point that we are diverse. We are also using scenes from the old Superman movies for the part in the song where it says like superman. There isn’t an overall message to the music video but there will be a small clip that has a political message in the music video. It also means that we as a group of diverse individuals have come together and maintained our friendship why can’t the world find its own “audio”. The feel for the music video is meant to be a fun music video not taking it too seriously. For our camera work, we plan to do a lot of planning. We will switch the light colors for different effects. We will use some animations in the music video. We will be using lights for our star’s part of the music video where will need to make the night look magical so lighting will be used to highlight the people and the stars bottle. We will be using an FT-E camera (2) sigma. With LED lights and a tripod for balanced video. Also be using the song as our guide so the lyrics are what we are filming so when it says we got the ride (we have a bike), and when it says we got the night (we are outside in front of the stars) “we couldn’t get any sound to come out of the mixing board in the studio, it took three engineers and the whole time Sia and lab were singing about how we don’t have audio, once we got it, the song made sense.” This was a quote from Diplo one of the artists in this song. For our visuals, we plan to have each shot match with the lyrics. We will not be adding additional sound. At the start of the song it has a slow pace but becomes more upbeat during the chorus but the pace slows by the end of the song. There are not many written codes in the music video except for the title and the name of the group singing the song. There won't be any symbols in the music video because all of our shots will have to do with the lyric so shot will be very obvious. We plan to repeat clips during the chorus mixing the clips together. For our settings, we plan to film in various places such the beach, lake. golf course, broad walk. We plan to use a lot of props such as glass bottles with lights in them, beetroot, bath bombs, lighter, bikes, trampoline, and glitter. For our costume we are using a Superman shirt for one shot and also a star costume for another shot but for the rest of the video we plan to just wear casual clothes. The clips of Superman, someone dressed in the star costume would appeal to a younger audience. Also the fact that this is about teen friends of a diverse culture trying to make a difference and having fun.

Year 10 Media Arts Genre trailer editing task – Term
03 Mr. Andrews
Self-reflection and evaluation:
Please answer each question
using complete sentences to justify your responses, include as much detail and
provide examples where possible.
Evaluation and Reflection:
My Trailer varied a little
from the justification and synopsis, the storyline got a little different. I
had the mother but there wasn’t a sister, like it said in my synopsis. The
trailer was meant to have a younger sister of the main actress, but it hadn’t
worked out. If I put it together it looked weird and the time was a significant
problem, it impacted on my original trailer. Instead of adding the sister scene
I decided to make it so Arora was growing up, with the scenes I was going to
use for the sister scene. I also didn’t use Maleficent as my main actresses’
mother as it didn’t explain much about, so I had to make the three mothers like
the cardholders as the original movie. I used most of my scenes list and
genres, but I had at first mainly focused on horror and conspiracy so I didn’t
think about the dramatic parts. But most of the shots were used from that
source and some I happened to remember and put down as I had found in my blog.
The scene list helped me develop my trailer easier. If I needed the three
fairies’ scene, I knew I could look at the scenes list which helped me to find
it in the movie and cut and paste on final cut pro. The whole process was made
easier and it helped me to find the war scenes which I used to develop the
action part of my trailer. I think I could have had made a selection of music
videos and downloaded to the laptop altogether and figured the genres, which
would have made choosing the right song easier. I had to download the music one
by one and if later I found another one I just added it. The music went over
each other which made the whole trailer a little messy and I feel like it could
have been cleaner. With more planning and progress reports I would have been
able to identify some of the mistakes such as scenes going over for too long.
For this problem to be resolved I feel like we should have had a peer drafting,
so save it and send it to a friend and they can make a bunch of notes for us to
fix. I didn’t realise while I was making the trailer that there were mistakes,
I only saw them when we were watching as a class. The use of my blog wasn’t as
effective as term 1, I feel like I could have listed more information and
stored all my song choices there. And should have also kept my failed projects
or cuts, and the reasoning of why I hadn’t put it in the final. But the making
of the trailer was a little confusing as I had made little planning most of it
I just made up through when I was producing the trailer. This was however not
the best option I should have planned properly and done everything step by
step. Producing a lesson plan listing what needed to be done in what lesson
could have been more proactive, as I spent too much time using the dissolving
affects and forgot about the music and left it to the end, well most of it
anyway. It required more time than I had expected, I used most of that time
editing the dissolving affects and forgot about other things such as titles and
music. Finding the right affect to dissolve one shot into another was time
consuming and I had changed each shot effect about 4-5 times. This may also be
the reason most of my choices made weren’t as good, I think I over thought it
and consumed more time in editing. Music
took less time than I expected as I had to only load and drag. But to an extent
I feel like I could have made a list and listened to heap of songs to make the
best choice. With planning editing could have been a bit less time consuming. The
most challenging aspect in editing would be the, speed and timing. Some of the
shots were to long but the Information was necessary for the trailer. So there
was a lot of cutting and speeding, but it was probably the most difficult when
I had to have the three fairies’ scene cut, it was too long. I had to spend a
whole lesson cutting unnecessary pieces and joining it back together to make
sure it didn’t look like straight off cuts. A lot of cutting was needed in the
last war and action scenes as I had to cut pieces from the horses and army, I
used it like flashbacks and it took me some time to figure out how to properly
put it together. I managed my final cut project well. I used 2 USB sticks, one
had my rough edit just in case my original got deleted, at least I wouldn’t
have to start again. I also saved the trailer each time I made progress and
deleted the previous ones so they didn't take much space on my laptop. I used a
fast sandisk USB, which made importing and exporting the trailer in to laptops
much easier. I borrowed laptops frequently and emailed the librarians before
hand about it. I did not miss an opportunity to borrow a laptop each weekend.
This technique I am thankful for as if I hadn’t done that then I would have a
messy time schedule for my trailer. I feel like if we had easier access to
laptops or perhaps the software could be put in to our laptops then maybe it
would have been easier. Because sometimes you would borrow a laptop and then end
up studying for a test, and sometimes there were no chargers. That would
probably the most difficulty I had encountered during the making of the
trailer. I would like to add some of the dissolving affects that I saw on some
of the trailers, they were a significant part of the trailer and it made them
seem nice even though the story was still the same, it gave a different effect
e.g. more horrific. I would also change some shots like the long shot about the
three fairies talking to Arora, that scene was very long and probably put me
that 11 seconds more into the trailer. I think the class enjoyed the song
choice but I feel like maybe it didn’t end up setting properly at the end. It
should have faded but it just stopped. I found Indya’s trailer very inspiring
regarding her choice of music and shots she chose. Her music was on beat and
wasn’t messy at all. Most people had good affects put on their trailers, like
Ali made hers dull to emphasize the past. These inspired me and maybe if I had
similar techniques I could have also made a better trailer. I used a lot of
frame effects, in which I made the frame colour dull to emphasize the tragedies.
And also used colourful, bright, vibrant colours to emphasize happiness. I used
a variation of moods to illustrate a Dramatic affect.
