Searching for Rachael Antonio

  Searching For Rachael Antonio
By David Murray

Searching for Rachael Antonio is a very convincing and startling podcast as it achieves the audiences attention by providing clear and solid evidence.  Journalist David, uses good technique of evidence and soundtrack to grab the audiences attention. The starting tune is very engaging and show desperation and the desperation to find immediate result to Rachael Antonio's missing case. David provides primary and secondary sources to prove the case. This podcast uses evidence used over 14 years ago to convey and disepher the context and evidences to find the culprit. The weaknesses of this podcasts are that they keep repeating when all the audience wants to do is find out the culprit in immediate time phase. The podcasts repeats the summary of each previous episodes and that leads to frustration and loss of audience attention.

·       What elements of mise-en-scene have your used and more importantly, justify your choices i.e. how have they added meaning through these devices?
I used Dude, because he is cute and audiences usually fall for the cuter picture, this helped engage with my audience using an innocent figure. I also used lots of different backgrounds to show change the mood and make it a little happier, to show that wow there is nothing wrong and then I change the set to the beach because that is my main plot where dude drowns. I make the waves move slightly to give the effect of a real beach and to continue to engage with my audience. Instead of just using dude, I used a life saver because I thought it was much more effective and related to safety of the beach, because the job of a life saver is to help at the beach and to keep a look out for People in danger. In the end I displayed Dude again only to represent and bring back the idea of what happened to other people and to him, to bring out my final message.
·       The style of animation and how it fits the message.
My message was about to obey safety rules and the consequences there are if you do not follow it. I think that my animation wasn’t effective enough because it doesn’t really make you feel like it as an important message it was meant to be. I think with more time I feel like that I could have done better, using more movements and better techniques. I let Dude drown because I think the message is much more effective when there are consequences, and audience will feel bad that just because there was a simple rule and Dude didn't follow it and he ended up giving up his life. In this animation I used only line animation because I thought it was much more effective.
·       You should critique the pace of the work and the reasoning behind your choice
My message is fast and forward, mostly because I didn't have enough time but also I think that there is more happiness and shown in a fast forward animation and then suddenly he just dies I think that it doesn't make sense but it really brings the purpose that one minute your happy and another you’ve lost everything suddenly, because they didn’t follow a simple rule. I think that the pace I chose worked well with my animation It brought out my main idea and smooth at the start then suddenly everything happening so fast.
·       The length and justify in relation to meaning/communication.
The length of my animation was 29 seconds, I used that much length because I know if I were to watch an add I would want it to be short. Short advertisements seem to have more effect on the audiences like Mr Powel said. Keeping it short was a little difficult since I had a lot of messages I wanted t cover. I coped with my animation duration with making my animation frames different each time so added the messages in different frames and not putting it all in one go. If my message animation was long it was most commonly going to go over my audiences head and they would have not gotten my message.

·       The sound and decision making around that.
I used a happy song in the start to bring out the mood only to shock my audiences with a sudden drowning sound from dude drowning. Using a happy song, I revolved my thinking around when I go to the beach I like happy music that's all I hear, So I thought to bring out the mood I could use the happy type of song selection. Then I thought, it wouldn’t make sense to leave the happy song on for the whole time especially when dude is drowning, so I added some drowning noises just to give the effect. Think that I could have added a sad type of theme to the end because it is something sad when you here about all the deaths caused by some preventable accidents.
·       The necessity for any written text and the choice of font/size etc.
The texts I used in the end to add an effect to my message, are important, they provide the audience with more information about my message and the reason of this add, to prevent a death caused by drowning, Why? Because, they don't pay attention to safety rules or aren’t aware while at the beaches. While I was doing my assignment, I didn't know how to trace fonts or if we could do that, after seeing the rest of the classes was then I realised, that we could but it was to late to change it then
